Fashion for Men

My other half hates shopping for his clothes with me. In fact, he would put off buying anything until his jackets and trousers are threadbare. Mostly now he wears jeans and it’s definitely time for him to get some new ones (see the pic on the left).

Browsing on the net I found Style Pilot. This is an unusual animal. It’s a fashion site for men. One of the options on the home page was ‘Browse’ which gave me a list of clothing items. In fact everything you can think of from suits to sun glasses. I clicked on Jeans and chose to view from the cheapest first. It gave me pages and pages of Jeans offered by many high street retailers, many of them at reduced prices, presumably in sales.

When I clicked on ‘Buy’ I was taken in a new tab to the retailer’s site to select size and colour etc. If that was available I could then put it in a basket to purchase. Unfortunately some of the links didn’t work properly; when I clicked to find out more about a pair of Crafted men’s jeans, I got a 404 error, but there was so much to choose from, I don’t think that would matter. I’m bookmarking the site so I can return easily when I’m looking for birthday and Christmas presents.

I’m going to tell my son about it too as he’s much more fashion conscious than my hubby, although I didn’t notice anything by Animal, which is my son’s favourite retailer. Style Pilot is a site where, if you’re a bloke, you can get fashion advice and read the answer’s to other chaps' style questions. If you answer a questionnaire about  yourself, you can get all sorts of style recommendations.

One section of the site made me chuckle, although I’m sure it’s meant to be really serious. It was a series of before and after pictures. The fact that I preferred many of the before outfits to the after ones probably reflects my age and the fact that I don’t know much about up to date fashion trends for the opposite sex.

Showing off an an Old English Tradition

Not sure when I'll be able to resume dropping and commenting folks. I am struggling with deadlines on a lengthy job and also trying to recover from a cough and sore chest inherited from that cold I caught. These combined are pretty exhausting.

But here's a pic I can share which I received from my daughter who went to a horse show  yesterday. Part of the entertainment   was a display by the huntsmen and their hounds.

Apologies

Really sorry folks. I am short of time for blogging and dropping on ECs at the moment. Got back from a week off and found some urgent work waiting.

Jade wanted to write some more of her life story but her mummy couldn't manage to help her so it will have to wait. In the meantime, she wants me to show you a picture of her being really good when I asked her to sit down in the park.

The Donkey Sanctuary

The Donkey Sanctuary was not far from our holiday caravan site. It is free to visit and a very popular holiday outing. There are over 500 donkeys at this site. most are housed in fields that you can walk around. Those that need special attention are kept in a large barn that opens onto this courtyard, and those that are well enough take turns to come out and enjoy the attention of the visitors. We were also able to go inside the barn where there is a roped off viewing area and information board. The donkeys' collars are colour coded for their sex and any special needs. The site has plenty of other attractions. They included a shop, of course, where I bought some cards and small souvenirs for the girls; a restaurant; and a maze in which we got thoroughly lost for about half an hour.

This Devon sanctuary was the first in the charity and it has opened a number of others. It also has teams of people working on donkey welfare around the world in countries where donkeys are often abused and need their help.

Quick Hello

I'm just passing through as I'm off on a short caravan break tomorrow with my daughter, plus granddaughter and her best friend.Still lots to do, having managed to meet all my deadlines for next week as well as this. Had to shop today and get in food for the men and dog I'm leaving behind as well as a few bits of suitable clothing for myself. Nearly finished everything now, and pretty well ready to drop. See you in about a week.

Brownie Points for Amazon

I have finally reconciled myself to the fact that I'm not going to see my trusty Kindle again. Yesterday I ordered another one to replace it. It will teach me to be more careful with it on public transport, since I mistakenly left it on a train. One Kindle was handed in by an honest passenger, but it turned out not be mine.

Because we had received a call about that one, after which mine couldn't be traced at the lost property office I called the transport police, believing it could have been stolen by a staff member, and they investigated. This morning they called to say they had drawn a blank and I should advise Amazon.

I was  pretty impressed when I went to the Amazon contact page and got a message asking for my phone number so they could call me back. The call was immediate and brief because my details were on the representative's computer screen and I didn't have to keep repeating myself.

Usually if I call a help service, it costs me a fortune on my phone bill, and takes much longer to go through all the hoops that get you to different advisers till you find the right one and have to explain everything over again. Amazon have definitely got something right

The lost Kindle is no longer registered to my account and cannot be re-registered by anyone else. My books from Amazon have been removed from it and will transfer automatically to my new one once I get it set up and registered. The books I bought at Smashwords should still be on my computer so I can upload them again if I want. I'll soon be a happy Kindle reader again, albeit with a somewhat lighter purse.

The Little Chapel in Guernsey

Here is another of my articles at Helium. I hope you can spare the  time to go and read it all. Your clicks are mounting up and I will not have to keep referring you there for much longer.

Many people include Guernsey in a European tour. They've heard about the German occupation in the last great war and the moving stories about it that are displayed in the island's museums. If you are one of them, and you emerge from the German Occupation Museum or the German Underground Military Hospital with a heavy heart, choose one of Guernsey's other attractions to lift your mood.

Although they are part of Great Britain, Guernsey and the other Channel Islands are much closer to France than to England and many of the place names are French. At Les Vauxbelets, which is French for 'the pretty little valleys', you will find Guernsey's Little Chapel.

It's well worth a visit. Said to be the smallest in the world, it is about nine feet long by six feet wide.
