Yes, Joan. It is on the edge of the River Nile, which is the fertile bit.
Ooh, I am going to Luxor in January, I didn't know about banana island. Thanks for posting this, I'll check it out when I am there.
Lucky you, Jenny. It's a banana estate you can walk through. We were also shown round the house in the picture, and taken to see a Nile crocodile in an enclosure, then given some bananas to eat before taking the boat back across the river to our hotel.
