A Walk to Old Harry

I've just put a comment on Sharkbyte's blog to the effect that it's good to have something to look forward to. As I mentioned in another post, while the the dreary weather continues this January, I  have my two special trips to look forward to.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast indicates that tomorrow could be a less wet day, so I shall try to persuade my hubby that we should take Jade farther afield. Perhaps we could take the chain ferry from Poole to Studland and trek out to the Old Harry Rocks.

Jade and I both need to lose some weight, hubby does too really. These days Jade is quite lazy and mostly stays close to me when we go out, so if I don't go far she doesn't either, and I think she really needs more exercise. When I do my Rosemary Conley aerobics along with an ancient video, she sits around looking quite bemused and obviously thinking I am bonkers. Hope we can do this longer walk and that it encourages Jade to run around and explore. I'll report next week.

Sandbanks Chain Ferry

pic by peter lloyd from Wikimedia Commons

We crossed on this chain ferry from Studland to Sandbanks today as part of a round trip drive out through the gorgeous Portland countryside and back to Poole. At first waiting in the ferry queue was a pain. Then we moved up near to the slipway and had a first class view of all the sea-going traffic heading in and out of Poole harbour.

Because it's a bank holiday here today, it was really busy. The short crossing is the only entrance to the enormous harbour area from the sea. People were enjoying themselves in craft small and large, slow and fast. There were water scooters zipping along in a shower of spray; cruise boats loaded with passengers; Sunseeker power boats with millionaire owners on board; fishing boats and pleasure boats.

And once we were on board the ferry had to wait as the harbour master's little boat led the way out for a small tanker with half a dozen containers on its deck. That crew had to work, bank holiday notwithstanding.

Dream Coming True

It seems I'm on the move. I've just successfully negotiated a price for my house with a buyer via my agent. I meet the buyer for the first time this evening when she is bringing her son to see it. Fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly from now on.

I'm waiting to talk to a local conveyancing specialist and also have about 10 houses at the coast to go and see tomorrow. Hubby is getting cover for his work so that he can come too.

Whoopee - ocean, here I come.

Moving Dreams

I’m feeling rather envious of a friend who has just moved into the home of her dreams, after spending a frustrated six months in rented accommodation waiting for it to happen. She sold her previous house very quickly after putting it on the market several months after mine went up for sale. Now she’s in the new house and I’m still waiting for a buyer, and likely to be doing so for quite a while to come, by all accounts.

Studland Beach is not far from where I hope to be living next. To reach it from there, the quickest way will be to cross the narrow entrance to Pooles natural harbour at Sandbanks on a ferry, as long as the queue is not too long. I understand it is very popular in the summer months. To reach it you drive past the famous millionaire homes, supposedly some of the most expensive coastal properties in the UK.

At the far end of the beach on the other side are some varicoloured cliffs. I took the photo there a couple of years ago in early summer. The second one is a view across the harbour taken from a layby where we stopped on the drive home.
